Born in Exning in Q4-1914 [Newmarket 3b:767], Son of John and Kate BARRETT (née PURKIS) of 1 Stratton Cottages, Burwell Road, Exning. Believed to have married Elizabeth ROBINSON in 1942 from Brentford and married there. They lived at 5 York Cottages, North End, Exning. Later his widow moved to 4 Mile House, Great Shelford.

In the 1939 register his parents were at 5 York Cottages, North End, Exning, father [27-10-1876] a carter; mother [24-9-1886] and brother Jack [30-12-1908] a lorry driver (and Air Raid Precautions warden). There are no closed records.


He died in Inglis Street Hospital, Dunfermline, Fife, of an illness believed to be due to drinking contaminated liquid whilst abroad with British Liberation Army. He is in the burial register as being with 143 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery.




James is buried in Exning Old Cemetery...Ref: Z.127
